Week 67 - Time to put on the Big Boy Pants

Wow what another great week here in Hong Kong! This week has been a lot of fun, and were able to visit so many members this last week! To start off last week we met up with Elder Rodriguez's MTC teacher, and had some lunch wit him down in central, then after that we hopped onto a ship and went out to Cheung Jau one of the outlying islands here in Hong Kong. It's a little fishing village with some pretty cool stuff, so it was a lot of fun. After that we went to our ward mission leaders home  for ward FHE (Family Home Evening) where they celebrated Elder stones and our ward mission leaders birthday only to have them find out that my birthday was the the same week. Haha it was pretty funny. So we celebrated it together and also got a nice present too( some sweet supermen socks!) Then on Tuesday there was kind of a makeup dinner to celebrate all 3 of our birthdays haha at a super good Thai food restaurant!

We also have meeting with Terrance fairly frequently and trying to get him ready for baptism, so the only thing really holding him back is his mom doesn't really support the christian religion in general, so right now we are talking a lot with our bishop and ward mission leader on what's the best way to help him. We all decided that we want him to invite his parents to our ward pot luck next week, so let's pray for the best! Oh I forgot to say this last week, but he's already read the entire Book of Mormon, and loves it! He especially liked Jesus Christ appearance in 3rd Nephi. Man he's so ready!

Then Saturday was a pretty cool experience I got to do my 1st baptismal interview with someone in the Sha Tin ward, and he's the coolest guy ever! So he doesn't know any Cantonese or Mandarin, he speaks some uncommon dialect in Mainland, but anyways we needed a translator, but it was super good! He has had some pretty cool miracles happen since he started believing in Jesus Christ, and overtime I asked a question about a commandment he was like "of course I'll keep it!" Yeah the guy is a stud...

To get to the title of this email,m I was pretty nervous being put with Elder Rodriguez this transfer, and becoming a senior companion because I have always been like not really confident in my understanding others, and like 40ish missionaries going home next week, and pretty much having to take over the area, but I can testify God prepares everyone he calls. Since being with Elder Rodriguez, the people I sometimes found extremely hard to understand are pretty easy now, and my speaking has skyrocketed as well. Also members are starting to realize that I'm taking over the area next week, and they are like "wow your Chinese isn't actually that bad" so that's something I've seen over this last week. So I guess that shows that if you got confidence in yourself that great things can happen!!

Today is  my birthday,  I'm just gonna go chill with my good buddy Elder Earls in Mong Kok!

Love you all, and  thanks for all the birthday wishes!

Week 66 - English Class Funday

Hey another great week here in Hong Kong. This week was a little slow because of me being "transferred" but staying in the same ward. It's interesting because in our ward we have so many potentials that just haven't been taught yet, so when I was put together with Elder Rodriguez, we inherited all those potentials because the other Elders have 2 weeks left, and they are teaching the Recent Converts and investigators that already know both sets of  Elders. This next week's plan is to start teaching some of those people.

My buddy Terrance, he's doing alright, but right now he isn't ready to commit to a date. He has already finished the entire Book of Mormon, so now we are really trying to make him act on that faith. He does want to be baptized, but he doesn't think he is ready. But don't worry he is still super solid. Ummm for anything else out of the ordinary we had our massive kids English class Funday, and it was a huge success! We got 27 kids to it, and they loved it! It was Mexican themed, and learned about the culture, and ate some tacos, and to cap it all, we had made 2 pinatas and the kids absolutely loved it! So hopefully we can get even more people to come to class, and hopefully teach some in the future. Also a water war is also in the planning stages right now for another activity! Some people have asked me how it feels to finally be with someone younger in the mission and senior companion, and my answer is " I have no idea what I'm doing!" but its a learning curve, and I'm slowly catching on to what I am supposed to do. Great things are about to take place in Ngau Tau Kok (NTK), so stand by!

 Love you all

Week 65 - When you run into family .....

So I don't have a lot of time left so here are some bullet points of what happened this week:

  • Tuesday after district meeting I saw my cousin in the Kowloon chapel then 10 minutes later I ran into my grandma on the MTR ride home.
  • Thursday we had a stake wide YM YW water fight. That was a lot of fun I got pushed into a pool like 5 times by the Stake President haha
  • Friday I got to go to the temple for p day!
  • Saturday we had a stake baptismal service where my mom's good friend Eddie Yuen asked me to give a devotional 3 minutes before I was supposed to because the guy that was supposed to do it didn't show up. Yeah that was fun
  • Sunday church was canceled because of a typhoon warning that never hit my area
  • Then to cap it of my brother showed up to where I'm emailing.- Apple Store.
Yeah interesting week.

Oh yeah I'm getting transferred to NTK1 I'm staying in the same ward but now am going to be with Elder Rodriguez and Elder Stone will be with Elder Jensen.

Yep that's my week love y'all!

Week 64

Wow another great week in the NTK! So this last Monday I came to the realization  that I have out side of soccer jerseys I also have an addiction to buying ties.... so there's this Tie shop in TST that all the Elders know of that sells super nice ties for 20-30 Hong Kong dollars so like 3-4 bucks in the US, and lets just say I like buying ties, and hoarding them in my suitcase for the rest of my mission haha. Don't worry mom I'll make a profit off them when I sell them back home to my friends who are going on missions! Anyways after that we hit of the mummy exhibit in TST again well because we got a free pass, and decided why not. Yeah its a pretty cool place.

On Tuesday after district meeting we had the chance to meet with our buddy Terrance to tour the temple grounds and discuss about the temple. We did find out his family planned a trip the day of his baptismal date, so it would need to be changed, and there were a couple of things that he didn't completely understand, but he is doing good. He is still coming to church and participating. He should be good in a couple of weeks, so pray for him!

On Wednesday we also had the chance to have our every transfer interview with President Lam. It always nice to receive counsel from the wisest man I have ever met!

So one of our members Sister Lai loves to have all these activities at her house where we have English activities with her kids and like 20 friends, its a lot of fun. These friends actually like doubled our kids English class attendance, and the parents just love the missionaries! Now we just need to start teaching them, but don't worry we are working on it!

Today's not p day but I am going on exchanges with the office Elders today! I'm gonna be in the office and sleep in the temple!!  I'm pretty excited for that.

That's about all from this week, and its crazy move calls are this week!! Hoping I can stay in NTK to keep the work moving forward

Love y'all!!

Week 63

Wow what another great week here in Hong Kong! This week was a little bit on the slow side, but it was still super good! This week we got to go a exhibit about the louve(99.9% sure I spelled that wrong) you know that big museum in France and it was pretty cool. It had a lot of random paintings from the place, and also here in Hong Kong they have a mummy exhibit, and it actually has some of the mummy bodies, so that was super cool too.

Tuesday was an interesting day because while Elder Stone and Elder Jensen had MLC, Me and Elder Rodriguez went on exchanges to help an investigator go to the hospital. So the reason we had to tag along is because her electronic wheel chair is all wacked up, and shuts down all the time, so we pretty much had  to push her from the bus stop to the hospital and I swear that thing weighed like 500 pounds! so yeah some crazy way I was actually able to understand what was happening. So that day was also Elder Jensen's birthday, so some members took all of us to Pizza Hut, which for some reason is like the fanciest restaurant in all of Hong Kong, It's pretty funny, and I was sooo good to have some real pizza for the first time in forever. That stuff is expensive here.

Do you guys remember that member friend I met last Saturday and scheduled? Well we were able to meet up with her on Friday, and we had some dim sum. We were able to share a small message, and she seemed pretty down to meet with us, but the only problem is she's back to mainland for a couple of months, so all I could do is encourage her, and gave her the email address of the person in charge of the church in mainland( there are a couple of branches there).

My buddy Terrance is doing good. we plan on scheduling a baptismal interview this week, to prep him for being baptized on the 22!
love you all for your love and support!

Week 62

Wow what another great week in the HK. So to start off, apparently  Saturday was the 20th year anniversary of Hong Kong being given back to China, and there was a massive celebration, a huge firework show, and apparently the President of China was also in attendance. Yeah we just had a English class, and last second was asked to go to the Hong Kong Boy Scouts open house to meet a member's friend. But it all worked out pretty good. At the event I was able to talk with the member and her friend for a good 15 minutes, and also saw a lot of less actives there too, and got to talk to them for a little bit as well.

Also yesterday we decided to do round 2 of random member visits and delivering a home made cheesecake to some member families. We decided to do a thank you run this week, and visited the Bishop, and the Lai family. It was super good. We got to sit down and get to know the families better, and just share our appreciation for everything they have done for us (which is a crazy amount) They are some great families and so blessed to get to know them. Out of the 15 or so thousand members in Hong Kong ( about 12000 of them are not active) There are honestly very few members in wards that will put in as much effort to help the missionaries as these people, so we just really wanted to express our appreciation.

A member from Kwun Tong also fed us some traditional Chinese food last Friday. Pictures to come from my reactions!

That's about it!

love yall!!

Week 61 - Zone Conference

Another great week in NTK! Honestly not a lot of things to really talk about today, but we have been keeping ourselves busy. This week we had Zone Conference with the Kowloon East Zone, and it was probably the best Zone Conference so far on my mission. The big push was how we can better use the Book of Mormon in our teaching, and it was really a eye opener on how the mission has really not been taking full advantage of the power that comes from teaching from the Book of Mormon. So that's something our entire zone is really gonna push for to improve on this transfer, and so that means I gotta think of training on the Book of Mormon in district meeting!

Yesterday was kind of a disappointment at church. Out of the 2 companionship no investigators came to church, so that was kind of a bummer. On the positive our investigator Terrance who is a stud, apologized for canceling last second for church and we were already able to schedule him to meet tomorrow, but this last week he also committed to a baptismal date for July 22! I honestly think he is already ready. He's read almost half of the Book of Mormon in a month, and is the most active participant in church, but anyways this July 22 date is gonna be a stake baptismal service the goal is to have 10 people get baptized that day! It should be super good!

Then last night we decided to do random member visits with some cheese cakes that we had stored in the cabinets for like 3 months, and it was a massive success! We were able to better improve the relationship with the young men president and he actually really enjoyed our 30 minute visit and told us he is willing to help us more especially with some of the less active young men! So that was a huge success!!

So that was my week love y'all! talk to you next week!
