Week 43 - New Bishopric

So this week was pretty average we hit the streets quite a bit, got some #s actually met with  some of these people to share a message it was all pretty normal, then Sunday came and there were a lot of crazy things that happened.

To start off last week on Sunday the Bishopric said there was going to be a special meeting this week and the Stake Presidency was coming, and I thought oh cool we"ll have Ward Conference and didn't think much of it. Then Sunday morning we were just chilling in the entrance welcoming people and you know in movies when there is a group of people walking in slow motion and there is some epic music?? Well that what I thought of when I saw the Stake Presidency, and most of the High Council walking down the street towards the chapel. Well it turns out that the Tuen Mun ward got a new bishop yesterday, and now the former Elders Quorum President Brother Yu is now Bishop Yu, and I was super excited because I love that man, and he is so powerful!! He is by far the most dedicated member toward missionary work, so I am super excited to work even more with him!

Then right after church our investigator A Fung got baptized!! so his situation is his mom is a member and she didn't think he could get baptized because he was some mental problems, and a lot of the members thought we were wasting our time teaching him over the last 7ish months, but i have honestly say that i have seen him change over that period of time. He went from I don't want to meet with the missionaries to fully participating in lessons and talking to us after. I have never seen a bigger smile on his face or his moms face before. When he talked a little bit after he was baptized he was just like i don't know what to say other than I'm super happy right now. it has been really cool seeing him change since day 1. (So things got really complicated after this. In Hong Kong people are baptized on Sunday after church, and are confirmed the following Sunday. However, in between Sundays, A-Fung had a mental breakdown at his care facility place, and they decided to check him into the mental hospital. He ended up staying there until after i left. The following Sunday in elders quorum Bishop Yu brought up the A-Fung situation, and some members shared their disapproval of him ever being confirmed. Me and Elder Smith were furious but held everything in and Talked to the bishop later about our personal opinions. Anyways after I left he eventually checkout of the hospital and came to church occasionally but had a couple of breakdowns there too, and some certain members don't want him coming to church anymore.

Then right after that we went to a members house for dinner and she invited her friends Chris from Africa to eat with us.

So during sacrament we didn't have time to meet Chris so the CPB elder taught the restoration and they accepted it very well and had a lot of good questions. than after dinner we taught about the Book of Mormon and how it supports the bible. the member shared a verse and Chris was like hey that reminds me of a verse in the bible, and we were like yeah like i said they support each other and he was like i understand now!!! So he is super cool and we are glad our member that doesn't know English some how got a hold of him haha. (Chris eventually stopped meeting with missionaries, but his friend Anthony who came to lessons with him eventually got baptized shortly before i came home!)

love you all and talk to you next week!!

Week 42 - Last man standing

AYYYY another week down!!

Another great week here in Tuen Mun. Actually now that I really think about it nothing really special happened this week.... Actually so do you remember that guy I talked about a month ago named Brother Yiu who had his records removed from the church about 20ish years ago? Yeah that guy, but anyways he has come to church every week since that day we met him, and something crazy happened, THE WARD FOUND HIS RECORDS!!! So it's so much easier for him to come back to the church. So when we met with this week we taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and focused it a lot on the first 2 steps Faith and Repentance, and at the very end me and Elder smith both bore our testimony and out of nowhere he bears his right after, and it was super powerful!!! He usually showed up to church in like some jeans and a jacket, and yesterday he had a tie, new slacks, and new shoes and you could tell they were recently bought!! This man is so powerful! And to make things even cooler right before church he asks the bishop when he could meet and talk. Man I love this guy he's so powerful and he's gonna be a fully active member in the months to come. So members have come up to us and were like "How did you find him" "he was a member way back in the day and I have no idea what happened to him" so its good to see the ward is also doing a great job helping him. (3 years later. Brother Yiu became a very strong member for the next couple of years. He helped missionaries teach, and passed and blessed the sacrament every week. Sadly when I met with bishop Yu, he said he recently had gone LA and Bishop Yu thinks it was because he got offended by another member. He still is very friendly and keeps in contact with members, but his church attendance has stopped since then. Bishop Yu says he keeps in contact with him still. Hopefully he'll come back. My biggest regret is that never got a picture with him before i left.)

and what else.... oh my buddy Elder Rostedt is back in the New Territories and I got to go on exchanges with him this week too. It was alot of fun, and also our English class that has been struggling lately was rocking on Friday and Saturday, so English class finding actually works. also the missionaries have also got some solid potential investigators the last couple of weeks because of English class, so yeah that's great, right?

Yesterday Jason one of the young men in my ward got the Melchezidak Priesthood this week and it was cool to see him in Elders Quorum this week.

Today we ate lunch with one of Elder smith's rc's (recent convert) from TST along with the TST and Kowloon City Elders, so it was alot of fun.

Yeah that was my week love you all!!!

Man why do I always forget important stuff.... Afung one of our investigators passed his baptismal interview he's gonna be baptized within the coming weeks!!!!

Week 41 - First Food Poison

Well start off, I want to apologize for not emailing yesterday. I had a bad case of food poisoning and I physically could not get out of bed, but not to worry I feel alot better today considering I got about 30 hours of sleep over the last 2 days (you know 2 nights and a entire day) shout out to my comp Elder Smith for doing phone calls for 3 hours straight after p day ended haha, and giving up his P day to do language study!

So yeah let's get to what happened this week. On Wednesday we watched the worldwide missionary broadcast and I'll skip to the changes in the missionary schedule which now gives us a lot more freedom with our time. we now have the option to go to bed 1 hour earlier than we used to (YESSSS) and also we have a lot more time on P day because we now only have 30 minutes of personal study and nothing else which I think both of these are genius because these are the things missionaries seem to struggle with the most sleep and not enough time on Pdays!!

On Friday we had our ward Chinese New Years party and that was pretty fun. Talking to all the members and meeting a couple LA's (less active) who were able to come, ate some traditional Chinese New Years food. Then Saturday we also had a stake activity where it was 100% missionary ran and we just had a lot of different games. It was also a lot of fun. Then the high light of the week was A-Wa got his mission call to Sydney Australia north!!! I am so excited for him!!! He is gonna be a great missionary.

So yeah that was my week love ya all!!

And how could I have forgotten this transfer are this week Me and Elder smith are staying together but sadly my MTC Companion is moving out to Cheung Sha Wan. Our 9 months living together is coming to an end, but I'm kind of jealous he gets to live in the temple now (temple has a 6 man apartment) and I have never heard of this ever happening, But he will be junior under Elder Sargent who is also the AP. Never heard of the assistants being split up, but I guess that's what happens the assistants speak 2 different languages.

Week 40- Chinese New Year

Hey Everyone so apparently I hit 40 weeks or 9 months this week, which is actually crazy. Alot of people have asked me what is my area was like this week because of Chinese New Years and to be honest it was absolutely dead. No one on the streets. The massive party was in Tsim ShaTsui where the fire work show was, but I'm to far to see them. So what we decided to do was to knock on doors of like 30 less actives to give them a little new years gift. Things didn't got as planned because only like 4 people actually answered their doors, so us and the other missionaries in the area decided to just sing in the busier area and pass out cards (outside of my area) I think we got a couple of numbers, so it all worked out.

This morning our bishop took the 10 missionaries in Tuen Mun and had some Dim Sum (Special Hong Kong Food), which is one of my favorite things, and is not the cheapest food, so shout out to Bishop Wong for be one of the coolest men alive! Then after, us and some of the members in other wards played some soccer and lets just say we got smacked by a lot of like 50 years olds. We weren't expecting anyone to be there, but eh it was fun. Out of the Elders me and Elder Fakatou held our ground and played OK but the others ehhh let's just say they were the reason we got scored on quite a bit haha. We had a good 1-2 game going for the offence, but I did miss on a open net and I was furious with myself haha.

So yeah that was my week the beginning of the week was the same old, but A-fung is on track to be baptized in 3 weeks so YAY!

So yeah love you all!!
