Week 64

Wow another great week in the NTK! So this last Monday I came to the realization  that I have out side of soccer jerseys I also have an addiction to buying ties.... so there's this Tie shop in TST that all the Elders know of that sells super nice ties for 20-30 Hong Kong dollars so like 3-4 bucks in the US, and lets just say I like buying ties, and hoarding them in my suitcase for the rest of my mission haha. Don't worry mom I'll make a profit off them when I sell them back home to my friends who are going on missions! Anyways after that we hit of the mummy exhibit in TST again well because we got a free pass, and decided why not. Yeah its a pretty cool place.

On Tuesday after district meeting we had the chance to meet with our buddy Terrance to tour the temple grounds and discuss about the temple. We did find out his family planned a trip the day of his baptismal date, so it would need to be changed, and there were a couple of things that he didn't completely understand, but he is doing good. He is still coming to church and participating. He should be good in a couple of weeks, so pray for him!

On Wednesday we also had the chance to have our every transfer interview with President Lam. It always nice to receive counsel from the wisest man I have ever met!

So one of our members Sister Lai loves to have all these activities at her house where we have English activities with her kids and like 20 friends, its a lot of fun. These friends actually like doubled our kids English class attendance, and the parents just love the missionaries! Now we just need to start teaching them, but don't worry we are working on it!

Today's not p day but I am going on exchanges with the office Elders today! I'm gonna be in the office and sleep in the temple!!  I'm pretty excited for that.

That's about all from this week, and its crazy move calls are this week!! Hoping I can stay in NTK to keep the work moving forward

Love y'all!!

Week 63

Wow what another great week here in Hong Kong! This week was a little bit on the slow side, but it was still super good! This week we got to go a exhibit about the louve(99.9% sure I spelled that wrong) you know that big museum in France and it was pretty cool. It had a lot of random paintings from the place, and also here in Hong Kong they have a mummy exhibit, and it actually has some of the mummy bodies, so that was super cool too.

Tuesday was an interesting day because while Elder Stone and Elder Jensen had MLC, Me and Elder Rodriguez went on exchanges to help an investigator go to the hospital. So the reason we had to tag along is because her electronic wheel chair is all wacked up, and shuts down all the time, so we pretty much had  to push her from the bus stop to the hospital and I swear that thing weighed like 500 pounds! so yeah some crazy way I was actually able to understand what was happening. So that day was also Elder Jensen's birthday, so some members took all of us to Pizza Hut, which for some reason is like the fanciest restaurant in all of Hong Kong, It's pretty funny, and I was sooo good to have some real pizza for the first time in forever. That stuff is expensive here.

Do you guys remember that member friend I met last Saturday and scheduled? Well we were able to meet up with her on Friday, and we had some dim sum. We were able to share a small message, and she seemed pretty down to meet with us, but the only problem is she's back to mainland for a couple of months, so all I could do is encourage her, and gave her the email address of the person in charge of the church in mainland( there are a couple of branches there).

My buddy Terrance is doing good. we plan on scheduling a baptismal interview this week, to prep him for being baptized on the 22!
love you all for your love and support!

Week 62

Wow what another great week in the HK. So to start off, apparently  Saturday was the 20th year anniversary of Hong Kong being given back to China, and there was a massive celebration, a huge firework show, and apparently the President of China was also in attendance. Yeah we just had a English class, and last second was asked to go to the Hong Kong Boy Scouts open house to meet a member's friend. But it all worked out pretty good. At the event I was able to talk with the member and her friend for a good 15 minutes, and also saw a lot of less actives there too, and got to talk to them for a little bit as well.

Also yesterday we decided to do round 2 of random member visits and delivering a home made cheesecake to some member families. We decided to do a thank you run this week, and visited the Bishop, and the Lai family. It was super good. We got to sit down and get to know the families better, and just share our appreciation for everything they have done for us (which is a crazy amount) They are some great families and so blessed to get to know them. Out of the 15 or so thousand members in Hong Kong ( about 12000 of them are not active) There are honestly very few members in wards that will put in as much effort to help the missionaries as these people, so we just really wanted to express our appreciation.

A member from Kwun Tong also fed us some traditional Chinese food last Friday. Pictures to come from my reactions!

That's about it!

love yall!!

Week 61 - Zone Conference

Another great week in NTK! Honestly not a lot of things to really talk about today, but we have been keeping ourselves busy. This week we had Zone Conference with the Kowloon East Zone, and it was probably the best Zone Conference so far on my mission. The big push was how we can better use the Book of Mormon in our teaching, and it was really a eye opener on how the mission has really not been taking full advantage of the power that comes from teaching from the Book of Mormon. So that's something our entire zone is really gonna push for to improve on this transfer, and so that means I gotta think of training on the Book of Mormon in district meeting!

Yesterday was kind of a disappointment at church. Out of the 2 companionship no investigators came to church, so that was kind of a bummer. On the positive our investigator Terrance who is a stud, apologized for canceling last second for church and we were already able to schedule him to meet tomorrow, but this last week he also committed to a baptismal date for July 22! I honestly think he is already ready. He's read almost half of the Book of Mormon in a month, and is the most active participant in church, but anyways this July 22 date is gonna be a stake baptismal service the goal is to have 10 people get baptized that day! It should be super good!

Then last night we decided to do random member visits with some cheese cakes that we had stored in the cabinets for like 3 months, and it was a massive success! We were able to better improve the relationship with the young men president and he actually really enjoyed our 30 minute visit and told us he is willing to help us more especially with some of the less active young men! So that was a huge success!!

So that was my week love y'all! talk to you next week!

Week 60 - Rain Rain and more Rain

wow what another great week in Hong Kong last Monday we went to Cheung Chau one of the islands off the coast of Hong Kong, and we had alot of fun out there. We found some pirate caves that we had to climb down to, and they were pitch black and pretty scary. The only light we had were the ones on our small little cell phones and some places got pretty narrow, but we went from one side to the other. While we were in that cave one of our investigators Harold who tagged along started yelling Elders we gotta go there is a typhoon coming!!!! So we were still on the island when the storm hit, and the boat ride home was a little bumpy, but we got home alive, and the streets were just crowded with people trying to get home. I heard the MTR was packed and you would have to wait like 5 trains just to get on. So we just got on a bus.

I was with Elder Rodriguez most of this week because you know zone leader stuff, and I can say it was probably the most stressful week of my mission because we had to cover 2 areas and we taught a total of like 9 lessons this week, and there was not a single comp study or weekly planning to plan for those lessons, so we had to make up a lot of stuff right on the spot, but was a really good week I really felt everything we taught helped all those investigators.

It has also been raining 24/7 for the last week, and that hasn't helped us all out at all. All 4 of us caught some bug and have been sick for the last 4-5 days, yeah its been pretty stressful, but is also a big learning chance for me and my future in the mission. Last Thursday was the start of the cutting down of missionaries in the mission like 20ish missionaries went home and only like 5 came in, and at the end of this transfer, its upward of 50 going home. So there are now several wards in the mission that no longer have missionaries in their ward. They have missionaries that cover it, but they are supposed to focus on their "real ward". So if I could give anyone advice it would work the missionaries or your ward could just lose them!

Saturday there was also a super fun primary activity. The missionaries were assigned a family to provide food, and we had a little competition on who could cook better. My group made sushi, and the other Elders made tacos. yeah tacos won but our food was more creative.

Yeah pretty fun week. love ya all and talk to ya all next week!

Week 59 - when cockroaches attack

Wow another great week in Hong Kong. To start everything off, Jason got confirmed yesterday!! Yeah love that kid, I'm really glad I got the chance to teach him these last couple of months. I've already seen the changes he and his mom have made since we started teaching them. Also yesterday our other investigator Terrance was able to go to 3 hours of church yesterday, which honestly never happens here. It's usually sacrament and then they're out. He is also the one who participated the most in Sunday school, and asked a lot of really good questions. Man this guy just needs to accept a baptismal date! We actually discussed this with him  for a little bit during a lesson. We gave him a goal for the end of next month, and he didn't accept it, but would push for that day, so he doesn't have a date, but does....

This last week I also got to go on all day exchanges with my lil bro (Elder Rodriguez) and it was honestly a very stressful and busy day. We were going back and forth between places had to throw together a last second English class, and to cap of the day walking back to the mini bus home I got attacked by the biggest cockroach I have ever seen. so in Kwun Tong it's a pretty dirty area so there are a lot of cockroaches and rats, but when I was in the middle of the street I felt something tickle me on the back of my neck. I did a pretty crazy dance and turned around assuming Elder Rodriguez was messing with me. When I turned around I realized he was like 10 feet behind me, so I started freaking out again. Once I stopped he gives me a "what are you doing, look" then his eyes just grow and he yells "DONT MOVE!!" he runs up to me slaps the cockroach off my neck and killed that thing right away. Yeah it was like 2-3 inches big. I honestly wish someone got that on camera,so that's the story of how I almost had a heart attack.

Transfers are happening this week. Nothing really happening in my zone, just people going home. It's the start of the wave of 60 missionaries going home in a 2 month span, so the next couple of weeks should be interesting!

Love yall!

Week 58 - Jason Got Baptized!!

Another great week capped off by a baptism of my buddy and good friends Jason! So to explain a little about Jason, he is a son of a LA (less active) in our ward. His mom hasn't been to church in a couple of years, and the missionaries have been meeting with them for a couple of months. Then when me and Elder Stone got here we were like "Jason getting baptized totally could help her come back to church", and that is what exactly happened. He honestly is the coolest 11 year old in the world. To quote Elder Hansen who did his baptismal interview "He is a angel" haha. gotta love that kid. You gotta love the support from the ward too. At first, they were a little hesitant about his baptismal date because his moms inactivity over the years but we smashed those concerns right away!

As for the rest of the week it was pretty normal. District meeting was pretty good. Being a district leader is actually pretty fun. I can literally do what ever I want for district meetings, and you honestly get to know the members of  your district a lot better. Something I never realized before, there is a reason why every Elder says district leader is their favorite calling as a missionary!

Tonight our ward mission leader is throwing a pizza party and we got a couple investigators to come so today should be good along with the rest of the week!
